My research background
My primary research interests are Business Rules and modelling of these, and BR-centric e-services.
I started my PhD studies in 1994, when I was involved in a project on IT artefact quality and style theory of paradigmatic, i.e. exemplary, form and function (Ehn, 1994). This project carried in 1996 over in another project, The Qualitheque (Ehn, Gustafsson, Meggerle, Steen & Svedemar, 1996), which aimed for an on-line community of IT artefact quality and evaluations based on a model, used to assess use quality from three perspectives. The Qualitheque was supposed to provide re-presentations of IT artefacts-in-use as a source for debate and development of a style theory of exemplars for the IT area. The Qualitheque was also one of the first 100% Java websites in the world.
My PhD thesis took the artefact quality as a departure, but instead of focusing on style theory, which proved it self to be a more or less dead end, me and my colleague investigated the concept of IT quality in practice as assessment ability and knowledge of professional systems developers.
I defended the thesis and received my PhD degree in June 2002.
New research interests are Business Rules Oriented Systems and BR-centric e-servcies which I hopefully can contribute to in the future.
During 2008-2011 I participated in the VacSam project, which was a joint effort between our department, Smittskyddsinstitutet (The Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control), and Cybercom Group. I am one of the main authors of the research funding application for the VINNOVA call: ”Innovativa användare i en samverkande e-förvaltning.” (Innovative Users in a Cooperative e-Government)
